Mateo Bambaataa, born Matthew Silva in Escondido, CA, was brought up in Philly from 1979 to 1986 — formative years where he was exposed to the early stages of hip hop culture as it filtered south from New York City. He fell in love with the beat and b-boying. His first hands-on experience with turntables was in the late 80′s and learned to mix records with the sounds of Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaataa, and The Egyptian Lover.

About 20 years later, after holding down residencies in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, the midwest, and San Diego, he still rocks it. With no genre boundaries in his way, Mateo combines classic cuts and new sounds and rhythms you haven’t even heard yet. He’s a purist too — strictly vinyl. Stay tuned for his original projects coming soon, fueled by DBC.
