DJ Steady [Smog] LA
http://www.myspace.com/steadydnb
A welcome face to dance floors all over California, Steady is a solid contributor to West Coast dubstep whose productions and performances passionately promote the sound. After playing drum and bass for almost a decade, Steady caught the dubstep contagion and was soon inducted into the SMOG family with the rest of the beat freaks. Along with fellow DJ and producer Kelly Dean, Steady now hosts a radio show “PLATFORM” on DubstepFM every second Saturday of the month from 1-3PM, where he showcases exclusive new material by artists both local and from around the world. The two have also just released “The Prophet” on Shift Recordings and you can find Steady’s work on Alterkation Records as well as on the recent and wildly popular “Dubstep LA” mix by Plastician. Looking forward to future collaborations with fellow SMOG members and other local dubstep heads, Steady continues to propel the sound forward in the studio and at filthy parties all up and down the West Coast.
Puppy Kicker [BrokenBeat/ Rogue Dubs]
http://www.myspace.com/sandiegounderground
Puppy Kicker is half of one of San Diego’s best kept secrets… ARGYLE, and has been smashing sound systems all around the southwest. From the deserts to the warehouses, dropping dance floor bombs is PK’s specialty: bringing ungodly sub bass, mind bending drops as well as a wide array of unrealeased tunes and original material. If you haven’t heard puppy before you haven’t heard shit. Be sure to check out his latest releases coming out in November on Rogue Dubs:
“Everyones Happy” & “The Smoothover” (RD013)
EshOne [Rogue Dubs/ SD Dubstep.com]
http://www.sddubstep.com
EshOne is a rising star of the American dubstep scene. He produces a very unique sound that can be only vaguely be described as minimal, dark, and cinematic. Being extremely picky in his selection of dubs, and in the way they are presented, EshOne creates a pure experience for the audience, an experience you do not expect and will not forget for quite some time. Even though he has played alongside many famous deejays, EshOne is not to be compared to any of them as he blazes through new territories of dub and dnb.
PNutz [EarthBound Radio/ San Diego Turntabe Institute]
http://www.myspace.com/pnutz
Opening for names like DEL the Funky Homosapien, Haiku D ‘ Etat feat.Aceyalone, Young M.C., Ab Rude & Mikah 9, Zion I, CMA, Typical Cats, The Grouch, and numerous others, dj P Nutz has been makin her mark on the scene. She currently has residencies with The Downbeat, Soul Glo, and Earthbound Radio. We are honored to have Pnutz make her bb night debut

A quick Q&A with Puppy:
It’s been a while, how are you?
I’m good. Just been makin tunes, tryin to get the name out there a bit. Got a couple tunes comin out on Rogue Dubs next month. And a vinyl release on Rogue Plates comin out in a couple months. So good. Really good.
How would you say the dubstep scene in SD has grown and developed in the last year?
Well… it’s def been making some serious strides. We’ve had a couple really big names come through town, which has been great. The people down here are def starting to catch on to the sound and really seeming to appreciate what we’re offering. Which is a small but VERY strong and diverse talent pool. I’d say we’ve developed from a baby in a crib to a baby that’s learning to crawl around and get into stuff… it’s not gonna be too long now before we are jumping ramps on our bmx bikes in the street. We’re growing so fast.
Who should we be lookin out for?
SD in general… Austin Speed, EshOne, MSK, Dr. Nickels, Tapir, Myself. We’re takin over!
How did the name Beaverhausen come about?
hahahahahahaha….
I met a beautiful young woman at a day party here in San Diego. She told me her name was Anastasia Beaverhausen. I was inspired by her, so I named a tune after her.
Any upcoming collabs or projects we should know about?
Um… yeah! I’ve been collabing with Esh under the name “Argyle”. We’ve been making some really cool tunes. I def have been enjoying working with him… the tunes just some out so naturally. I’ve also been working with Tapir. We don’t really have a name yet but I think we may call ourselves “The Z List”. Also, my boy Austin Speed has been making some CRAZY mash ups w/ Calulon & Whizard.
What’s your favorite after-the-bar taco shop, and why?
Ohhh… that’s a hard one… the first answer is… The one that’s still open! But if a had a choice it would either be Santana’s on Rosecrans because they are consistantly good, have great sauce and don’t seem like they will spit in my burrito. The other would be Lucha Libre’s… They’ve got these gourmet burritos that are fuckin INSANE good, not to mention that the whole place is decked out in Luchador masks and champion belts and stuff… Oh! and they’ve got a tv that premanently has Ron Burgendy on the screen.. Now THAT’S some good San Diego lovin right thr’!
Shouts:
Well everyone I’ve mentioned already… Austin Speed, EshOne, Tapir, MSK, Dr. Nixs, um… LL Beaverhausen, ROGUE DUBS, Big Up Magazine, Broken Beat fam, everyone who comes out and shows love and support.. (I feel like I’m doin my thank you speech after the Emmy’s or some shit) MY GRAMA!!! fo sho! sddubstep.com

The start of something…
Sddubstep.com has only been around for about 5-6 months. Since I have started, it has grown to over 100 web hits a day, 600 feed hits a day, 2,600 twitter followers… Bigger than I could ever have thought would happen within a year. Due to our success, we partnered with Sublmnl Sound System here in SD, and Big Up Magazine up in SF to bring two events to San Diego:
The Invasion Feat. Sukh Knight
All I have to say about these events is this:
- Thanks to everyone who made it out and witnessed some serious bass.
- Thanks to all the core people in SD who have been making moves for dubstep in our town since day one (you know who you are).
- Thanks to the Kava Lounge, we love you.
- Thanks to Big Up Magazine, it’s your time!
- Thanks to Kutz & Sukh Knight for tearin this town apart!!
- Thanks to Brian BassMechanic for providing insane sound.
- Thanks to Sublmnl for helping me put all of this together.
- Thanks to whoever had the awesome after-party spots!
I hope San Diego is ready for what’s to come, I’m going to gather myself, step up my shit, and blow minds.
I love SD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
